Oliver Zeidler (born July 24, 1996 in Dachau ) is a German rower in one .

Career

Oliver Zeidler initially practiced swimming , in which he became German champion of his year in 2014 and 2015 and made it to the semi-finals at the European Youth Championships over 100 meters freestyle. When his training group at SG Stadtwerke München broke up, he stopped swimming at the end of 2016. In the same year, he started rowing at the age of 20. The first successes came quickly. Zeidler won the gold medal in ergoruding at the 2017 World Games and was vice European champion in the U23 junior category that same year.

In 2018 he took part in the World Cup race for the first time . At the finals on the Lucerne Rotsee , he came second and won the overall World Cup in a single. He was nominated for the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv in September 2018 , beating his rival Tim Ole Naske of the same age . There he reached the final as second in his semi-final run, in which he finished sixth. In 2019 he won the world championship in ergo rowing over 2000 meters. After Zeidler finished third in the German championships in the singles category behind Tim Ole Naske and Stephan Krüger in 2018 , he won the title in 2019 ahead of Stephan Krüger and Timo Piontek . At the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne, he won the title by a narrow margin over Stef Broenink from the Netherlands . On September 1, 2019, he became world champion in Ottensheim , Austria .

Oliver Zeidler is trained by his father Heino Zeidler. After graduating from high school in 2015, he completed an apprenticeship as a tax clerk and, since 2016, has been studying tax law at the University of Economics & Management .

Oliver Zeidler comes from a "rowing family". Grandfather Hans-Johann Färber was Olympic champion in 1972 in a four with helmsman, his father Heino Zeidler was fourth in the 1994 World Cup in two with helmsman, Uncle Matthias Ungemach World Champion in 1990 in eight and 1991 in four with helmsman, Aunt Judith Zeidler in 1988 Olympic champion in GDR eight. His younger sister Marie-Sophie Zeidler is also a rower and has already won World Cup and European Championship medals among the juniors.
