Stefan Vilsmeier (* 1967 in Poing ) is a German entrepreneur and inventor . He was best known as the founder and CEO of Brainlab , one of the world market leaders in the field of image and computer-assisted surgery and radiation therapy .

Life

From 1979 to 1987 Vilsmeier attended the Franz-Marc-Gymnasium in Markt Schwaben . As an autodidact in programming on the Commodore C64 , he published a successful book on 3D graphics at the age of 19 . With more than 50,000 copies sold, “3D construction with Giga-CAD Plus on the C64 / C128” became a bestseller in this category.
In 1989 Vilsmeier enrolled at the Technical University of Munich to study computer science with a minor in theoretical medicine, but did not graduate because he founded his company
Brainlab in the first semester with 150,000 marks from the sales of his book . In 1996 he presented the first device for the precise treatment of tumors . In 2000, Vilsmeier received the Bavarian Order of Merit from Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber and in 2001 the title of Entrepreneur of the Year in Germany from the Ernst & Young Group in the information technology category . In 2002 he was named World Entrepreneur of the Year in the global finals .
