Thomas Lange (born February 27, 1964 in Lutherstadt Eisleben ) is a former German rower .

Life

Long homeland club was the SC Chemie Halle , later the Ratzeburg rowing club . He won the gold medal in a single for the GDR at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and repeated this victory four years later in Barcelona . In the summer of 1996 he got out of the competition boat for the last time after winning the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . In 1997 he was awarded the highest honor in rowing, the Thomas Keller Medal , by the world rowing association FISA . In 1984 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold in the GDR . In 1988 he received the Star of Friendship of Nations in gold.

Thomas Lange is married, now lives as a surgeon in Ratzeburg and has two sons. He is occasionally still active in Masters regattas and has been chairman of the Ratzeburg Rowing Club since 2016.
