Christopher Baillieu

Christopher "Chris" Latham Baillieu (born December 12, 1949 in Marylebone ) is a former British rower .

Career

Baillieu rowed for Cambridge in the Boat Race and won this traditional race four times in a row from 1970 to 1973. In 1972 and 1973 Michael Hart was also in Cambridge's boat.

Hart and Baillieu formed a double scull in 1973 . Behind the boats from the GDR and the USSR, the two British took third place at the 1973 European Championships . At the rowing world championships in 1974 and 1975, the double sculls from the GDR and Norway won, the bronze medal went to Hart and Baillieu. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, too , the medals went to the three dominant double sculls: the Norwegians won ahead of the British and the GDR boat. In the absence of the Norwegians, Hart and Baillieu won the title at the 1977 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. 1978 in New Zealand the Norwegians won ahead of Hart and Baillieu.

After Hart finished his career, Baillieu formed a double scull with Jim Clark . The two finished fourth at the 1979 World Rowing Championships . They also finished fourth at the 1980 Olympic regatta . Then Baillieu moved to the one with which he finished fourth at the 1981 World Championships and sixth in 1982 .
