Christoph Zerbst

Christoph Zerbst (born December 16, 1963 in Salzburg ) is a former Austrian rower .

Career

Zerbst achieved his greatest sporting successes in the double scull with his partner Arnold Jonke . The two won their first international medal in 1989 with a bronze medal at the World Championships in Bled, Yugoslavia . In 1990 the team in Tasmania ( Australia ) became world champions ahead of the Germans Thomas Lange / Stefan Ullrich . Another highlight of their career was the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , where Jonke and Zerbst won the silver medal behind Australians Stephen Hawkins and Peter Antonie . After an attempt in double sculls, Jonke and Zerbst competed again in double sculls at the 1995 World Championships and finished sixth. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , the two finished fifth.

Zerbst initially rowed for the rowing club Villach from 1881 , in 1988 together with Jonke for the Viennese rowing club Pirat , Jonke and Zerbst achieved their great success as members of Wiking Spittal .

In 1992 he received the Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . In addition, he and his partner Jonke were voted “Carinthian Sportsman of the Year” twice (1990, 1992) by the Carinthian Sports Press Club .
