Martin Studach

Martin Studach (born May 17, 1944 in Küsnacht ; † March 24, 2007 ) was a Swiss rower .

Martin Studach followed in the footsteps of his father Eugen Studach , who became world and European champion in the single in the 1940s . He started his international career at the age of twenty at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . In the following three years, the doubles Martin Studach and Melchior Bürgin dominated the scene in double sculls at will. They became world and European champions three times and won all important regattas in this category. Martin Studach was also successful in the singles and won important regattas in the singles, including the Diamond Sculls at the traditional Henley regatta . At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , he suffered a circulatory collapse in the preliminary races and then ended his racing career.

In March 2007 he died of heart failure while riding a double scull.
