Melchior Rudolf Bürgin (born October 17, 1943 in Eptingen ) is a former Swiss rower .

Melchior Bürgin rowed for the Grasshopper Club Zurich . He won the bronze medal behind the boats from the Soviet Union and from the United Kingdom in the double scull together with Martin Studach at the European Championships in 1964. At the Olympic Games in 1964 , the boat from the Soviet Union also won. Behind the boats from the United States and Czechoslovakia, Bürgin and Studach rowed into fourth place.

In 1965 the two Swiss started a three-year winning streak. They won the titles at the European Championships in 1965 in Duisburg, at the World Championships in 1966 in Bled and at the European Championships in 1967 in Vichy. At the 1968 Olympic Games on the regatta course in Xochimilco near Mexico City, Studach suffered a circulatory collapse shortly before the finish line and ended his rowing career as a result. As a substitute, the Swiss one-rower Hans Ruckstuhl moved into the double scull. Bürgin and Ruckstuhl qualified for the semi-finals via the hope race . There they just missed the finals and then took the penultimate place in the B final. Four years later, Bürgin reached another Olympic final at the 1972 Olympic Games and took sixth place in the one.

Melchior Bürgin was later the national coach of the Swiss rowers.
