history

The first boathouse was built in 1882 on a leased property, which was purchased in 1891. In 1912 the association got its current name. The boathouse was expanded again and again in 1922, 1964 and 1974. Today's boathouse was built in 1993 under the direction of chairman Gerfried Spath after the old boathouse was completely dilapidated after a flood and had to be removed. The building was planned by the architects Stefan Traninger and Mayer. The association received financial help for the construction of the building from the state of Carinthia , but especially from the city of Villach . In 1994 the shell was completed. In 1945 the association was placed under provisional administration by the British occupying forces. This was not lifted until 1948 and rowing was resumed. The association flourished under Emil Hilber, who became chairman in 1961. In 1976 the club held the world championships for juniors and lightweights and built a regatta course in the Albano system with eight tracks.

The club's sporting successes begin in 1884, when the first race victory at the Carinthian regatta was achieved. Since then, the rowers of the rowing club have won over 5,000 races in national and international regattas, including a world championship title and over 250 national championship titles. The club's most successful trainer was Helmut Sallinger, who brought "his" rowers between 1983 and 2001 to 1,277 victories. One of the most successful athletes was the 22-time Austrian national champion Ulli Wolf, who took part in 3 European championships, 5 world championships and 2 Olympic games. Other very successful rowers were Christoph Zerbst (World Champion 1990, silver at the Olympic Games 1992 and fifth at the Olympic Games 1996) and Martin Kobau (World Champion 2001, overall World Cup winner 2000, European Champion 1993 and 12th and 9th place at the 1996 Olympic Games and 2000).

Every year over 2,000 athletes from over 10 nations take part in this regatta. The regatta runs from Berghof ( Ossiacher See ) to Club Landskron (formerly Robinson Club). It is a straight route with eight lanes and a length of 2 km (Olympic distance).
