Hermann Findegg

Hermann Findegg (born February 10, 1850 in Limmersdorf near Klagenfurt, † January 9, 1901 in Ferlach ) was an Austrian alpinist and Alpine Club official .

In 1877 the pharmacist Findeegg and Antonio Brussoferro made the first ascent of Montasch . The route chosen is now known as the Findeeggsteig. In 1881 he appeared as a founding member of the Villach rowing club . From 1881 to 1896 he was chairman of the Villach DuOeAV section. During this time five huts were built , including the Bertahütte . This is named after his wife Berta Findeegg, who was also a passionate mountaineer. In 1902 the new building of the Wischberghütte was named after him. His son was the limnologist Ingo Findeegg .

The bold and tenacious scout on Montasch spoke of his work from the south, and on Kanin from the north, certainly the strongest and most successful of all Julier pioneers of earlier times, a really great man who liked to trust his own strength.
