Ingo Findeegg (also Ingomar Findeegg , born January 29, 1896 in Villach , † February 18, 1974 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian limnologist . In addition to basic research on limnology, his research focus was on the description of the Carinthian lakes . The most important contribution is the discovery and description of the Meromixis .

Life

Findeneggs father Hermann Findenegg was considered the engine of the Villach DuÖAV - section . The Bertahütte is named after his mother Berta Findeegg .

After serving in the First World War and being a prisoner of war, he began studying natural sciences at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz. After the teaching examination in 1923, he was a teacher of natural history , physics and mathematics, including at the Klagenfurt Federal High School . His dissertation on turbellariums (approved in 1927) led him to his main research areas of hydrobiology and the Carinthian lakes. His exact investigations showed significant contradictions to the prevailing doctrine about the stratification and circulation of the Carinthian lakes. In particular, he discovered the meromictic type of lake, which does not experience a complete redeployment in the seasonal rhythm.

In 1955 he completed his habilitation at the Karl-Franzens-University and was appointed honorary professor there. From 1957 to 1967 he headed the Lunz Biological Station .

Findegg held various honorary positions, including the vice-presidency of the International Limnology Association , the zoological custodian of the Carinthian State Museum , the management of the Klagenfurt Botanical Garden and the editor-in-chief of Carinthia II . His research work is also considered to be diverse, including a presentation of the mammals in Carinthia , a work on the immigration of the muskrat in Carinthia, the Carinthian cow kick and fishing. He is considered to be the driving force behind the founding of the Carinthian Institute for Lake Research .
