history
The association came into being around the Carinthia magazine, which was founded in 1811 . A natural history museum was founded in Klagenfurt in 1848 . This is considered to be the founding year of the Natural Science Association, as a museum committee was also founded as a sponsoring association, from which the Natural Science Association for Carinthia developed. In 1852, the organization began to organize specialist committees for various fields of science or activity. In 1863, the association and the History Association for Carinthia took over the editing of Carinthia, which is one of the oldest German-language magazines today. In 1872 the museum committee was renamed the Association of Natural History State Museum . In 1884 the exhibitions of the Natural Science Association and the History Association for Carinthia were combined in the newly established Rudolfinum to form the Carinthian State Museum. The club's headquarters are still located there today. In 1891 the Carinthia was separated into the historical Carinthia I under the sponsorship of the history association and the natural science Carinthia II of the natural science association. In 1928 the name was changed to Verein Naturkundliches Landesmuseum , and in 1942 the current name was finally adopted. After the Second World War , the association was resumed in 1946. In 1974 the state of Carinthia took over the sponsorship of the museum. In 1997 the association was a founding member of the sponsoring association for the Carinthian Institute for Lake Research , which had developed from the scientific association in the 1970s.
