history

Anton Paul Heilmann : Bertahütte around 1894

The first Berta hut, built in 1885, stood on the Jepca saddle on the border between Carinthia and the then Carniola .

It was named after the first name of the wife of the head of the section at the time, Hermann Findegg, as a thank you for her selfless help in building the first hut. The name Berta is a symbol and thanks to all women and men who helped with the construction.

On October 13, 1920, three days after the Carinthian referendum , it was destroyed by fire. The second Berta hut was built in 1925 and was set on fire by partisans in 1945.

The third Berta hut was built from 1961 and opened in 1963.
