Taxi alarm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A taxi alarm is an alarm system for taxis to protect the driver. The alarm is triggered from the driver's seat and can only be switched off by a hidden switch in the engine or trunk. The alarm causes the headlights and rear direction indicators to flash and also triggers an interval sequence of horn tones.

In Germany, it is required by law in accordance with Section 25 of the Ordinance on the Operation of Motor Vehicles in Passenger Transport (BOKraft).

Silent alarm

Some vehicles also have the option of triggering a silent alarm , for example by means of flashing red LEDs in the taxi sign . In older vehicles without integrated LEDs in the taxi sign, the entire taxi sign may flash.

In an emergency, the driver can decide whether to trigger the loud or silent alarm. The idea behind this is that a loud alarm could provoke the attacker and make it even more dangerous.

In both cases, the taxi center is often automatically informed if the vehicle is connected to one. In some cases, the radio is automatically set to transmit via an emergency channel. However, the spread of voice radio has decreased due to automation in the taxi industry and the spread of taxi apps .
