Klaus von Fersen

Klaus von Fersen (born March 29, 1931 ) is a former German rower . In the 1950s he was the most successful German rower in one .

Klaus von Fersen began his career at the Ratzeburg rowing club under coach Karl Adam . In 1955 von Fersen won the German championship titles in singles and doubles , the latter together with Manfred Rulffs . 1956 von Fersen repeated his championship victory in the singles. At the European Rowing Championships in 1956, he finished second behind Vyacheslav Ivanov . Then von Fersen was nominated for the all-German team for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne; von Fersen retired there in the semifinals.

From 1957 to 1959 Klaus von Fersen started for the rowing club Germania Düsseldorf in 1904 . In these three years Klaus von Fersen was German champion in one and second at the European Championships, in 1957 and 1958 behind the Australian Stuart MacKenzie , in 1959 behind Vyacheslav Ivanov. In 1960 Klaus von Fersen rowed for ETuF Essen and won his sixth German championship title in a row. In the elimination regatta for the Olympic Games in Rome, he lost to Achim Hill from East Berlin .

For his sporting success he received the silver bay leaf on April 19, 1958 .
