Tim Grohmann (born December 27, 1988 in Dresden ) is a German rower . In 2012 he was Olympic champion in the quadruple sculls .

Grohmann lives in the Freital district of Pesterwitz .

Career

Grohmann started rowing in 2001. At the Junior World Championships in 2005 Grohmann took second place with a double scull, at the Junior World Championships in 2006 he was Junior World Champion, both times Karl Schulze was already in the boat. In 2007 Grohmann and Schulze competed in a double scull and won the silver medal at the U23 World Championships . After a third place at the U23 World Championships in 2008 and eighth place at the European Rowing Championships in 2008 in the adult class, Grohmann returned to the quad scull in 2009. In the World Cup, the German double scull with the line-up Tim Grohmann, Karsten Brodowski , Marcel Hacker and Tim Bartels won the Rotsee Regatta in Lucerne, at the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznan the double scull with the same line-up won the bronze medal behind the boats from Poland and Australia.

In 2010, the German double scull competed in a new line-up with Stephan Krüger , Tim Grohmann, Lauritz Schoof and Mathias Rocher and achieved second place at the World Cup regatta in Munich and also second place in Lucerne with Hans Gruhne for Krüger. With Gruhne on strike, the German quadruple finished fourth at the European Rowing Championships 2010 and the 2010 World Rowing Championships .

In 2011 the German double four won the World Cup opener in Munich with Tim Grohmann, Philipp Wende , Karl Schulze and Lauritz Schoof, after they had also won the German championship title in this line-up. In the line-up of Schulze, Wende, Schoof and Grohmann, the boat took second place at the World Cup in Hamburg and won in Lucerne. In this line-up, the quad also finished second at the World Championships in Bled behind the Australian boat. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won the gold medal with a double scull.

For this he received the silver bay leaf on November 7, 2012 .

At the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju , he finished 2nd with his team. They were defeated by Croatia, followed by the United Kingdom.
