Mats Gunnar Thelin (born March 30, 1961 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League from 1980 to 1994 .

Career

Mats Thelin began his career as an ice hockey player at AIK Solna , for whose professional team he was initially active from 1980 to 1984 in the Elitserien , the top Swedish division. With AIK he won the Swedish championship title in the 1981/82 and 1983/84 seasons . During his time at AIK, the defender was selected in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round as a total of 140th player by the Boston Bruins . For the Boston Bruins he played in the National Hockey League from 1984 to 1987 , but never fully asserted himself there. He also played two games for Boston's farm team Moncton Golden Flames in the American Hockey League during his time in North America .

For the 1987/88 season , the left shooter returned to AIK Solna in the Elitserien. In the 1992/93 season he and his team had to accept relegation to Division 1, which was then still second class . In the following season , however, with AIK he already managed to return directly to the Elitserien. He then ended his career at the age of 33.

International

For Sweden Thelin took part in the World Championships in 1982 and 1983 . He was also in his country's squad at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and 1984 at the Canada Cup .
