The adjacent parts of the city or district are Altfranken , Gorbitz , Roßthal , Dölzschen (all in Dresden ), Potschappel , Zauckerode , Wurgwitz (all in Freital). Pesterwitz is located north of the Burgwartsberg , above the Weißeritztal.

coat of arms

The Pesterwitz coat of arms shows a bunch of grapes , a hoe , a mallet and iron on a white / wine-red background . This points to the main sources of income of the place: the viticulture , the Agriculture operated to date, and the mining of coal in Döhlen Basin , but which has been suspended since the 19th century.

history

For a long time, a mention of a Burgward Bvistrici ( see Bystritza ) in a document from Heinrich IV. From 1068 was the first mention of Pesterwitz. But this is controversial among historians. However, the importance of Pesterwitz is certain as early as the 11th century, as a parish church is mentioned here as early as 1100. That means a church from the location of which a pastor usually had to supply several parishes (often with several churches). The St. Jakobus Church is the first church on the “Saxon Way of St. James on Frankenstrasse” (Görlitz – Hof) , which still bears the name of the saint today.

The castle hill is regarded as the location of Thorun Castle , which was built by Burgrave von Dohna and which gave rise to the first mention of the city of Dresden, because Margrave Dietrich von Meißen decided in 1206 in a document dated to Dresden that the castle was on episcopal territory stood and had to be torn down. To commemorate this event, a memorial stone was inaugurated on the castle hill in 2006.

Pesterwitz was first mentioned in 1311 as Besterwiz . The name goes back to the Old Sorbian personal name Bezstryj. There are comparable names in the Old Polish and Old Czech languages. In translation, this means the father's brother . So it is about the settlement of the people of a Bezstryi .

The secret secretary Christian Reichbrod von Schrenkendorf (1613–1660) to Elector Johann Georg I acquired three estates in Pesterwitz in 1649, 1650 and 1653 and became the manor owner of Pesterwitz. His descendants split into two lines, the Klingenberger and Pesterwitz lines. The Pesterwitz line died out with Christian Ehrenreich Reichbrod von Schrenkendorf († September 29, 1735 in Teplitz ) and his sister and universal heir Christiane Hedwig von Hohberg auf Börna kept the manor until 1737.

In 1737 the manor became the property of Count Heinrich von Brühl . In 1740 it was bought by Friederica Sidonia von Nimptsch . In 1794 Günter Carl Albrecht von Nimptsch had the baroque castle "Jochhöh" built. This was given as a wedding present from Karl Friedrich von Burgk to Carl Friedrich August Freiherr Dathe von Burgk in 1848 .

In the years 1817 to 1837, under the technical direction of Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm Lindig, the deep Elbstolln was created, which also goes through the mountain under the municipality of Pesterwitz. The coal mined from the Zaucker or mines was to be transported by ship to the Elbe in this 6.5 kilometer long tunnel . The deep Elbstolln has recently been extensively renovated.

The family of the Barons von Burgk are the last owners of the manor from 1847 to 1945. In May 1945 the manor was confiscated and from July 1945 supplies were made to the Red Army . From autumn 1949 to 1991 it became the state-owned Pesterwitz estate .

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the agricultural operation was transformed into "Gut Pesterwitz" and the buildings of the former manor were converted into apartments and business premises. Several new development areas are being advertised in the municipality. One of them is, for example, the "civil servants' quarter". This quarter is close to the town center and is mostly intended for civil servants. In 1994 it was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf . After a referendum against incorporation into the city of Dresden, the municipality of Pesterwitz was incorporated into the city of Freital on January 1, 1999 .

At some vantage points you have a very nice view over Dresden or Freital. The Weinbergschlösschen Jochhöh ( Lage ), which served as a retirement and nursing home for a long time, is just outside the village . The Burgwartsberg (249.4 m) is also worth seeing, around which several legends are entwined and which is said to have been the location of Thorun Castle .

The treasure in Burgwartsberg
It is not documented, but the legend reports that in the distant past there was a castle on the mountain, protected by powerful weapons, which was supposed to protect the area conquered by the Germans from raids. The keeper lived in the castle. The elevation is still called Burgwartsberg today. According to legend, there is a castle with huge treasures inside the mountain. Among other things, there is a brewing pan full of gold. Once upon a time, the castle warden's daughter, Edelgard, wanted to raise the treasure and, in order to be able to use the underground passages, had herself transformed into a toad. Even today she guards the treasure, pressed into this ugly body. Only every 300 years does it show itself in its real form and asks young, unselfish men for redemption. But to this day no one has managed to kiss the toad monster three times. So the wealth is still in the mountain. In the middle of the century before last, miners tried to dig a tunnel under the plateau of the assumed castle square in order to get hold of the gold, unfortunately in vain. So will today in St. John's night lights from the mountain and show the way to the treasure a blue light. Who saw the light

traffic

In the traffic concept of the city of Dresden from 1994, there were considerations to expand the network of a tram line from Dresden- Wölfnitz to Pesterwitz. However, this was rejected again after the incorporation into Freital. There are now six bus connections every hour on weekdays with the DVB line 90 to Dresden and one bus connection with the RVSOE line C to Freital.

The A 17 runs through the area of the district between the Altfranken tunnel and the Dölzschen tunnel , but has no exit here. The next junction is about 5 km away from Dresden-Gorbitz on the B 173 . The nearest commercial airport is Dresden Airport in Dresden-Klotzsche , it can be reached via the A 17 / A 4 in around 20 minutes.

The construction of the Kohlsdorfer Landstrasse, another connection next to the existing Otto-Harzer-Strasse from the Kesselsdorfer Strasse to Pesterwitz, was very controversial for a long time. The dispute about this construction project went up to the Federal Administrative Court . The expenditure of 1.7 million euros was denounced in the black book of the Saxon Taxpayers' Association. Construction began at the end of March 2007. It was opened to traffic in September 2008.
