Between 1896 and 1910 he designed more than 25 church buildings, mainly in the Ore Mountains , in the Kamenz area and also in the North Bohemian area. In addition, he directed church renovations and renovations. Some new school and rectory buildings as well as villas in Klotzsche near Dresden, where he himself lived at Goethestrasse 3, can also be traced back to him.

Kandler's work develops from an almost pure neo-Gothic in his first work, the new building of the Wilsdruffer Nikolaikirche in the years 1896 to 1899, to an eclectic historicism in which he continues influences of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque and with contemporary elements such as Art Nouveau connects to its own kind of homeland security architecture . Kandler was very productive in the artistic as well as in the structural engineering area.

Kandler had been a member of the Corps Lusatia Dresden since 1892 .
