The Evangelical Church in Varnsdorf ( Warnsdorf ), Northern Bohemia , is a neo-Gothic church building in the Czech Republic. It is a unique building made of red brick.

history

After the number of Protestants in Warnsdorf had risen to 800, the city became the seat of a vicar. He was introduced to office in October 1902. The solemn act took place in the Old Catholic Church , which up to this time also served the Evangelicals. When Warnsdorf was raised to an independent evangelical parish of the superintendent AB West Bohemia in September 1903 , it was decided to build a new church.

The foundation stone was ceremoniously laid on May 16, 1904, and a memorial sheet was placed in it. The design for the church building comes from the Dresden architect Woldemar Kandler . In 1905, three bells were brought to Warnsdorf as a gift from the Upper Lusatian Society and after a solemn consecration they rang for the first time on June 28th.

The largest bell had the inscription: “The word of God remains forever.” The middle bell, which announced every day and greeted the evening, was inscribed with the words “Pray and work”. The smallest bell was intended to remind people that all people are mortal and that Jesus is always with them, which is why it carried the inscription: “I am with you all days until the end of the world!” In addition, each bell had a Bible quote.

The Warnsdorf Church of Peace was inaugurated on December 3, 1905 . The organ with 21 stops and 1,300 pipes was consecrated on May 25, 1906.

From 1919 to 1945 the parish belonged to the German Evangelical Church in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia . The church was in good condition until 1945. After the Second World War it was handed over by the state to the Czechoslovak Church without any clarification of ownership and without any certification . The last priest of the Czechoslovak Church served here until 1960. He had the roof repaired, a new motor installed in the organ and the tower clock repaired.

The period of normalization in the 1970s marked the beginning of the church's decline, and due to the lack of proof of ownership, the gradual deterioration of the building could not be prevented.
