“Sehma has about 680 residents in about 90 houses, so it shows a strong population; In 1801 there were 526 consumers. They feed themselves partly on agriculture, since they have a large, by no means barren village field; build particularly excellent and abundant flax , and because of the strong, beautiful meadows, practice good cattle-breeding; partly with forest work, with berry and sponges reading, with grain and bread trade, with land transport, with nails forges and the like. s. w .; partly with bobbins and spiders. In order to perfect the spinning of the bobbin thread, the mayor Eisenstuck zu Annaberg [...] set up a spinning school here, and since then Sehma has been supplying some of the bobbin thread that is hardly inferior to the finest Dutch. A spinning mill is also connected to the school […]. Sehma also supplies his tips , which are debited especially from Annaberg; but there are also some top dealers in the village, and their pretty apartments, as well as some merchants, freight forwarders, and the like. s. w. [...] The hereditary court is in the Niederdorfe. Not far above the church you can find a beautiful, newly built grinding and cutting mill […]. There is still a Zaynhammer in the upper village and 2 mills here, and with that they have 4 grinding cycles and 2 saws. [...] There used to be two smelting works in Sehma , but they were completely ruined by the immense flood on Jul 21, 1565 [...]. "
With the opening of the "Sehma" station on the Zschopautalbahn on May 1, 1881, the place received access to the railway network.
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the textile industry took off here. The factory owner at the time, Friedrich Richard Küttner , played a major role in Sehma's economic development.
On January 1, 1999, the previously independent municipalities of Cranzahl, Neudorf and Sehma merged to form the municipality of Sehmatal.
