Coßmannsdorf is a village in the Hainsberg district of Freital in the Saxon district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains . The place was first mentioned in the 15th century, has belonged to Hainsberg since 1933 and to Freital since 1964.

geography

The Rote Weißeritz at the entrance to the Rabenauer Grund in Coßmannsdorf

The Coßmannsdorf district extends over around 2.2 km² at 190 to 245  m above sea level. NHN in the southwest of the Freital city area. Within the Hainsberg district of Freital , which is made up of the Hainsberg and Coßmannsdorf districts, Coßmannsdorf forms the southern part and encloses the entire built-up area in its west. Coßmannsdorf lies in the valley widening created by the confluence of the Roter and Wilder Weißeritz rivers at the end of the Rabenauer Grund . This confluence is located in the northwest of the district, where the (United) Weißeritz arises , which flows through Freital, the Plauenschen Grund and Dresden into the Elbe . Downstream of the Weißeritz and upstream of its two source rivers, the valley quickly narrows again behind the municipal boundaries. Other brooks in the Coßmannsdorf area are the Vorholzbach , the Pastritz and the Somsdorfer Bach .

In addition to Hainsberg to the north, the surrounding towns also include the town of Rabenau and its district Obernaundorf in the south and east and the Freital district of Somsdorf in the west. Coßmannsdorf also shares a short border with the forest towns of Tharandt and Großopitz . On the slope up to Rabenau there is a second town center on Coßmannsdorfer Flur, this comes from the former Gutsort Eckersdorf .

The eastern and central parts of Coßmannsdorf are mainly built up, the partly steep valley slopes of the two larger rivers are forested, and in the direction of Rabenau and Somsdorf there are also agricultural areas. The Heilsberger Park is located on the Wilden Weißeritz in the direction of Tharandt . Coßmannsdorf has a share in the flora-fauna-habitat areas of the United and Wilder Weißeritz valleys and the Roter Weißeritz and Oelsabach valleys, as well as the Weißeritztalhang and Rabenauer Grund nature reserves .

history

Map from 1821 with Coßmannsdorf (Kotsmannsdorf)

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1432. Coßmannsdorf was originally a district of Somsdorf . It belonged to the Grillenburg office from 1764 to 1843 , and since then to the Dresden office . On January 1, 1907, it broke away from Somsdorf and communicated in 1913 Eckersdorf . In 1933 Coßmannsdorf joined Hainsberg. In 1952 Coßmannsdorf and Hainsberg became part of the Freital district . Hainsberg and thus Coßmannsdorf have been part of the city of Freital since 1964. The Leipziger Buntgarnwerke produced in Coßmannsdorf until 1992 , after the privatization of the company, production was relocated and the Buga-Center, today Weißeritz-Park, was built on the site . The 2002 flood damaged parts of Coßmannsdorf, including the Weißeritz Park and especially the Weißeritz Valley Railway in the Rabenauer Grund. As a result, no trains ran through Coßmannsdorf for six years until the railway and the Coßmannsdorf stop were reopened at the end of 2008. A large part of the Coßmannsdorf rails received a general overhaul or was replaced.

In 1432 the names Koschendorff and Koczschendorff appeared, in 1551 Coßmannsdorf Kosmisdorff was called. In 1608 the current name came before, after that a spelling with K became common and the addition "small" was often added.

Economy and Infrastructure

Established businesses

Former spinning mill, now a shopping center

Currently the most important business location in Coßmannsdorf is the Weißeritz-Park , a shopping center with around 65 shops. It is located in the buildings of the former Buntgarnwerke Freital, some of which are still remembered, for example in the street name An der Spinnerei or the earlier name of the Weißeritz Park, Buga Center . The Hains leisure center is located in the immediate vicinity of the Weißeritz Park . A fitness center, ice rink and bowling alley, tennis and badminton courts as well as a sauna and catering area were added to a swimming pool built in the 1970s. In 2014 and 2015, the indoor pool was expanded to include a leisure and slide area. The sports facility is operated by the Freital Technical Works. These are located a few hundred meters away in the former town hall, which today, as the “House of the City Companies”, is also the administrative headquarters of the city's commercial enterprises and the project development company.

Historically, the location on the river also offered mills the opportunity to settle in Coßmannsdorf. The largest of these systems was the Coßmannsdorf roller mill , which was mentioned as early as the 15th century and was in operation until 1992. After a long period of vacancy, it was converted and refurbished for residential purposes until 2012.

Road and rail transport

Freital-Hainsberg West stop

In terms of road traffic, Coßmannsdorf is essentially connected to the surrounding towns via two state roads: Tharandter Strasse (S 194), as an extension of Dresdner Strasse, connects the Freital core districts and Tharandt. Rabenauer Straße (S 193) branches off from it while still in Hainsberger Flur, and leads through Coßmannsdorf to the town that gives it its name. There is a connection between the two state roads in Coßmannsdorf via Hainsberger and Somsdorfer Strasse, on which important facilities in the district such as the former town hall and the elementary and secondary school are located. Obernaundorfer Straße, classified as a district road, branches off from Rabenauer Straße in Eckersdorf into the Rabenauer district.

Two train stations connect Coßmannsdorf to the rail traffic: the Hp. Freital-Hainsberg West on the Dresden – Werdau railway line (including station of the S 3 line in the Dresden S-Bahn network ) and the Hp. Freital-Coßmannsdorf on the narrow-gauge Weißeritztalbahn , the Hainsberg, with a focus on tourism, connects with Dippoldiswalde and Kipsdorf via routes along the Rote Weißeritz . Between 1961 and 1974 Coßmannsdorf also had a tram connection: the Plauensche Grundbahn ended, coming from Dresden along the Weißeritz, with a turning loop not far from the turning point of the narrow-gauge railway.

After the tram line was shut down, bus traffic was switched to and the "A" bus line, which still exists today, was introduced from Löbtau to Coßmannsdorf. It is operated by the regional traffic Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains (RVSOE) as part of the Freital city bus network. The RVSOE also maintains other regional transport lines that go to Coßmannsdorf bus stops.

Education and leisure

"School in the Park" building

Coßmannsdorf is the location of the primary and secondary school " Geschwister Scholl " Hainsberg and the "School in Park" for the mentally handicapped in the immediate vicinity. There is a two-field gymnasium on the school premises, which, like the “Hains” leisure center, is also used for club sports.

Coßmannsdorf is important for tourism as the entrance gate to the Rabenauer Grund as a starting point for hikes or trips with the Weißeritztalbahn. Once a year, the "Run in the Spring" takes place in Rabenauer Grund, including routes over two, five and ten kilometers as well as a half marathon. The traditional "Ballrooms Coßmannsdorf" also exist as a location for events. The Rollmopsschänke inn near Eckersdorf is also significant in terms of local history .
