Roller mill (Freital)
The roller mill is a former mill in the Saxon town of Freital . It is located in the Coßmannsdorf district and is designated a cultural and technical monument .

The roller mill is located on the road between Coßmannsdorf and Somsdorf . The Rote Weißeritz runs about 100 meters away and a little later joins the Wild Weißeritz to form the Weißeritz . The water required for the mill operation was conveyed to the plant via a mill ditch . The moat, which is largely preserved today, begins further south at about the level of the Weißeritz-Park shopping center and ends shortly after the mill on Hainsberger Strasse again at Rote Weißeritz.

The roller mill was known for a long time as the midday mill under the name of its owner Johann Karl Christian Mittag . While Coßmannsdorf was a district of Somsdorf, the mill was also known as Somsdorfer Mühle . The name Coßmannsdorfer Mühle is also common, even if it was not the only mill on Coßmannsdorfer Flur.
The roller mill is mentioned as early as the 15th century. The Saxon elector registered interest in the mill in 1622, but the miller resisted being taken over by the sovereign. After a fire in 1761, it was rebuilt and put into operation a year later. The mill office dates from 1784. The warehouse was built in the 19th century. After 1938, the owners converted the roller mill into one of the most modern milling systems in Saxony at the time.
Around 1970 the company was nationalized in the GDR . After that, grinding continued until 1992, after which the building stood empty and was supposed to be demolished. However, a buyer was found for the listed building, who had it renovated for around 3.5 million euros and furnished around 20 condominiums in it. The renovation was completed at the end of 2012.
