Location of Weißig in Freital

Weißig is a district of the Saxon major district town of Freital in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains .

geography

Weißig is located in the west of the Freital city area on an agriculturally used plateau sloping to the south and east between 250 and 360 meters above sea level . Weißig is surrounded by forests on the slopes of the Weißeritztal valley to the south and east of the village . To the west of the village is the "Weißiger Höhe".

The district consists of Oberweißig, Siedlung (Mittelweißig) and Unterweißig . Between Mittel- and Unterweißig is the Weißiger Wald , which is only about 300 meters wide here. The Wettingrund , through which there used to be a connection to Deubener Hüttenstrasse, begins at Unterweißig . In the Wettingrund there was a "forest recreation site" that was temporarily used as an orphanage.

history

Oberweißig was first mentioned in 1235 in a deed of donation from the Burgrave of Dohna to the Altzella monastery as Wizoch and was initially a forest hoof village . This was subordinate to and belonged to the Dresden office and had an outbuilding in the 16th and 18th centuries . The property belonged to the Döhlen manor and from the 18th century to the Zauckerode manor . With the introduction of the municipal code in 1839, the municipality elected the municipality board. Steiger Schmidtgen became the first parish council . At the same time, Oberweißig received an elected community elder and several committee members. In 1910 a registry office was established for Ober- and Unterweißig . The street lighting was also set up.

Unter- or Neuweißig, first mentioned in 1834, was incorporated into Oberweißig on July 1, 1919. The Weißiger school building, inaugurated in 1878, was given a gym for school sports and gymnastics in 1928. The school building was expanded. Three years after the city was founded in the Döhlener basin , the independent city of Freital sought to incorporate Weißig ( administrative authority Dresden ) in 1924 , but this failed due to the protest of the citizens. Belonging to the newly formed Freital district from 1952 , Weißig was incorporated into Freital on January 1, 1974 against the will of the citizens.
