Jacó (pronunciation in Costa Rica hakó ) is a coastal town on the Costa Rican Pacific coast and the capital of the canton of Garabito in the province of Puntarenas .

Jacó is located directly on the Costanera Sur coastal road , from which a junction leads through the town and forms the only main street there, Avenida Pastor Díaz . All kinds of shops, banks and restaurants can be found along this main street. The side streets lead to the beach or to Costanera Sur.

Official information on the number of inhabitants is not given, the information varies between 3000 and 6000 inhabitants. The authorities estimate about 4500 residents, of which about one third are Costa Ricans, one third are foreigners with unlimited residence permits ("Residencia") and another (more frequently changing) third are workers mainly in the tourism sector. The number of tourist beds is around 35,000. In Jacó there is a branch of the tourist police established in Costa Rica in 2007.

The beach of Jacó and other beaches in the vicinity are available for tourism (Herradura in the north, Hermosa, Estilleros Oeste and Estilleros Este in the south).

About 17 kilometers north of Jacó is the Carara National Park and about 60 kilometers south of the Manuel Antonio National Park .
