history

Großopitz is laid out as a Waldhufendorf and was a rural community . The place was created in the course of settlement on behalf of the Margraves of Meißen by the administrator of Tharandt Castle , Boriwo de Tarant , from 1215 or the existing Slavic settlement was Germanized during this time. The first mention of the originally Slavic settlement - under the name Apacz - can be found in the loan book of Friedrich des Strengen from 1349/50. Like most of the later Tharandt districts, Großopitz was also part of the Tharandt Castrum around 1378 , and the Tharandt- Grillenburg office in 1550 . From 1856 the village belonged to the Tharandt court office. 19 years later, in 1875, Großopitz was part of the Dresden District Administration. Before 1875 Großopitz was parish to Döhlen (today Freitaler district), then to Tharandt. In 1923 the independence of the place ended with the incorporation into the forest town. Großopitz is thus one of the oldest districts in Tharandt. As a Tharandt district, Großopitz was still part of the Freital district (later the district ), which emerged from the Dresden administrative authority in 1952, the Weißeritz district , which was formed in 1994 from the Freital district and Dippoldiswalde district. In 2008 the place finally became part of the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains, which emerged from the Weißeritzkreis and the district of Saxon Switzerland .
