Götz Draeger (born July 31, 1944 in Bad Landeck / Silesia ) is a former German rower and world champion in four-four .

Career

Draeger began with 21 years in the TSC Berlin, later SC Berlin-Grünau , with the rowing . Before that he was an athlete (decathlon) and played handball . After just one year, he was GDR vice - champion in 1966 with Hans-Ulrich Schmied in the double scull . He achieved his greatest successes in the skull area . In 1970 and 1971 he was GDR single master. He won another championship title in the four- four in 1974. At the World Championships in Canada in 1970 and the European Championships in Copenhagen in 1971, he took second place in the single behind Alberto Demiddi (Argentina).

As part of the 1974 World Cup , the double scull was used for the first time without a helmsman . Götz Draeger, Joachim Dreifke , Rüdiger Reiche and Jürgen Bertow won the gold medal on the Lucerne Rotsee . In the same year he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Götz Draeger ended his active career in 1977.

Life

Draeger studied food technology at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a degree in engineering and received his doctorate in the field of food chemistry ( Dr. rer. Nat. ). From 1986 to 1990 he headed the Scientific Center for Rowing in the German Gymnastics and Sports Association and then worked as a pharmaceutical consultant until his retirement.
