action
The unplanned pregnancy not only messes up the lives of the two teenagers Jana (16) and Yunus (17), but also the lives of the two single parents, both doctors specializing in internal medicine. With Dr. Sibel Aydin, mother of Yunus, and the widower Dr. Max Walther meets two different characters.
Family, friends and the patients in Max's emergency practice in the St. Georg neighborhood in Hamburg bring new challenges in every episode, which the two different characters - Sibel impulsive and empathic, Max Hanseatic reticent - have to face.
While Sibel and Max try to stand by the two young parents-to-be as well as possible, the two families, to which Max's cheeky 12-year-old daughter Nena belongs, get together. Together they master the new and old challenges of everyday life, both at home and at work.

The love for his father was of great importance, but short-lived; it came to a painful end with the beginning of the pregnancy. Also because of this background, despite all her motherly love and care, she is upset when it comes out that Yunus has unexpectedly impregnated his secret friend Jana.
After the two families of the two teenage parents-to-be have met, she decides without a fuss to do everything possible so that they have a good, happy start to their new, responsible phase of life. Although they couldn't be more different in character, Sibel soon gets closer to Jana's father when she leaves the hospital due to the circumstances and starts to practice in his emergency practice. Max has an attractive nature, spiced with a dry sense of humor, which is also reflected in his distant attitude towards his patients. Due to his sloppy schooling, he had to repeat the 10th grade. In the new year he almost fell in love with Jana, who is going to his new class. Although not his first relationship, Jana quickly got a special, unique place in his heart. When Yunus learns that Jana is pregnant by him, he first rejects this new situation and pushes for an abortion. But after Jana has made a clear decision in favor of the child, he too takes on the role of the future father and grows with the new responsibility in his life.

In December 2016, it was announced that the series would be discontinued after Season 2.
reception
Audience ratings
The start of the Saturday evening family series on January 3, 2015 saw 3.43 million viewers (12.4% market share), which means that Sibel & Max was roughly at the level that Heartbreaker - father of four sons last achieved on this slot. Sibel & Max achieved 0.51 million viewers among young audiences and thus a market share of 6.0%.
criticism
When classifying the series, Stefan Niggemeier reminds the FAZ that the previous evening slot on ZDF was still “the place where a funny dressed chimpanzee named Charly triggered or unraveled human conflicts” and calls it a “long journey for him Broadcasters to get closer to the reality of life and television reality of the 21st century. ”Regarding Sibel & Max , Niggemeier says that luckily what one would expect from the term“ intercultural family series ”has not been implemented and admits the series a certain lightness. Above all, İdil Üner makes the predictability of the constellation bearable through her presence.
