Christina Perri
Christina Judith Perri (born August 19, 1986 in Pennsylvania ) is an American singer-songwriter who became internationally known with her debut single Jar of Hearts .
Beginnings and personal life
Perri grew up in Bensalem , a suburb of Philadelphia . Her father has Italian, her mother Polish roots. At the age of eight, Perri began taking piano lessons ; at the age of 16 she taught herself to play the guitar by herself by watching the guitarist of the group Blind Melon in a video . Since then she has been writing her own songs. Her older brother Nick Perri played as a guitarist in rock bands such as Silvertide and Shinedown .
Perri attended Archbishop Ryan High School until 2004 . After finishing school, she went on tour as an assistant with her brother's band until she received a scholarship to the renowned University of the Arts (Philadelphia) . After a year she dropped out of college and spent some time in Italy to get to know the homeland of her paternal ancestors. Perri moved to Los Angeles on her 21st birthday and married that same year. After 18 months, the marriage ended in divorce, and Perri returned to Philadelphia, where she wrote the song Jar of Hearts in late 2009 . She returned to Los Angeles, worked as a waitress in a café during the day and recorded music videos in the evening, which she published on the YouTube video platform . It was through this way that a management in Hollywood became aware of the singer and contacted her via Facebook.
On December 12, 2017, she married her long-time friend Paul Costabile, to whom she was engaged since June 2017.
A distinctive feature of Perri are her numerous tattoos , which she says is one of the methods of expressing herself in addition to songwriting.
Career
Perri's breakthrough began with the performance of her song Jar of Hearts on the dance show So You Think You Can Dance on June 30, 2010. Her friend Keltie Colleen, a Canadian dancer and TV presenter, had the song to the show's choreographer without Perri's knowledge cleverly. Perri and Colleen watched the performance in the audience. Following the broadcast, the song went straight to the Billboard Hot 100 and was sold 100,000 times within a month. Two weeks later the song was performed again on the show So You Think You Can Dance , this time sung live by Perri and accompanied on the piano. On July 21, 2010, she, who is now looked after by the management agency Bill Silva, signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records .
Tours and performances
Known to a larger American audience through several television appearances (CBS, Jay Leno ), Perri started her first tour in the spring of 2011 in the opening act for James Blunt . Her first tour as headliner took her under the title Lovestrong Tour since July 2011 through North America, Australia and Europe. Subsequently, in the late summer of 2012, she accompanied the American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz on the North American part of his world tour. On February 18, 2012, Perri sang her song Jar of Hearts before the world championship boxing match between Vitali Klitschko and Dereck Chisora in the Olympiahalle in Munich.
Publications
On November 9, 2010, Perri released an extended play called The Ocean Way Sessions , which also included the song Jar of Hearts . Perri's debut album Lovestrong , produced by eight-time Grammy winner Joe Chiccarelli , was released on May 10, 2011 in the USA and on January 27, 2012 in Germany. Perris' song A Thousand Years is included in the soundtrack to the film Breaking Dawn - Bite to the End of the Night, Part 1 , and this song also appears in the credits of Breaking Dawn - Bite to the End of the Night, Part 2 . On October 16, 2012 a Christmas EP was released with the title A Very Merry Perri Christmas . On April 1, 2014 their second album Head or Heart was released . The single Human had previously been released.
