Dereck Chisora (born December 29, 1983 in Mbare near Harare ) is a British professional boxer of Zimbabwean origin and former European heavyweight champion (EBU) .
amateur
Chisora moved from Zimbabwe to England at the age of 16 and was already noticed in his youth for criminal activities. His probation officer referred him to a boxing club as a socially integrative measure. As the next amateur boxer, he fought in the super heavyweight division and won the English amateur championship in this weight class in December 2005.
Professional career
At the beginning of 2007 he switched to the professional camp and won his first fight on February 17th by technical knockout in the second round against the Hungarian István Kecskés. On June 14, 2008 he defeated the undefeated, later Commonwealth champion Sam Sexton by technical knockout in the sixth round. He also defeated the future Commonwealth Champion Neil Simpson prematurely on December 6, 2008.
On May 22, 2009 Chisora boxed against Paul Butlin, whom he had defeated on points in January 2008 in a four-round fight. For no apparent reason, Chisora Butlin bit the left ear during the fifth round of the match. Since the referee had not recognized the bite, he was not disqualified and finally won the fight after eight rounds on points. However, he was subsequently banned for four months and fined £ 2,500; the victory was not deprived of him.
After two more successful development fights, he boxed on May 15, 2010 against the experienced Danny Williams (at that time 41 wins and 8 losses) for the British heavyweight championship. At this point, however, Williams had far passed its zenith. Originally Sam Sexton was supposed to fight Williams, but he had to cancel due to a hand injury, so Chisora got his chance. He won the duel against Williams by technical knockout in the second round. He then successfully defended the title and also won the Commonwealth title in a rematch against Sexton, which he was able to defeat prematurely in the ninth round.
A fight against IBF / WBO world champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 11, 2010 was postponed by Klitschko to April 30, 2011 due to an abdominal muscle injury and ultimately canceled because of a less than optimal healing process, so that Klitschko could start a union fight against WBA on July 2, 2011 - World champion David Haye could contest.
Chisora then boxed on July 23, 2011 in a defense of the Commonwealth and British Heavyweight Championship against Tyson Fury . He performed with a weight of more than 118 kg, the highest fighting weight of his career to date. Chisora lost the fight over twelve rounds clearly on points and suffered the first defeat of his professional career. After a build-up battle , he boxed on December 3, 2011 in Helsinki against the Finn Robert Helenius for the European championship and was subject to controversial points.
Subsequently, he was committed by WBC world champion Vitali Klitschko as an opponent for a voluntary title defense on February 18, 2012 in Munich. Chisora lost the fight over twelve rounds unanimously on points. The boxing match was overshadowed by unsportsmanlike conduct; so Chisora Klitschko had already slapped while weighing. Then he delayed the start of the fight and spat water in the face of Wladimir Klitschko, who was also present, after his march into the ring. During the press conference after the fight , Chisora caused another scandal when he clashed with David Haye, who was present as a television commentator . Chisora and Haye provoked and insulted each other, which ultimately led to a scuffle between the two camps. Hayes manager and trainer Adam Booth suffered a bleeding cut on his forehead; Chisora accused Haye of being hit with a beer bottle by him and then threatened to shoot Haye. The Munich police then started investigations into dangerous bodily harm against those involved and briefly arrested Chisora before he returned home to be questioned about the events at Munich Airport . The boxing association WBC then banned Chisora for events under the supervision of the WBC and also announced a fine. Furthermore, after a hearing on the incidents, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) revoked his license for an indefinite period.
In May 2012, a fight between Chisora and David Haye was announced at a press conference in London . The duel, planned for a maximum of ten rounds, took place on July 14, 2012 in Upton Park of the London football club West Ham United . In order to circumvent the obstacle of the revoked boxing license, Chisora obtained a license from the Luxembourg boxing association. Chisora got into the ring with a fighting weight of 112 kg and lost in the fifth round due to a technical knockout, after he had already been counted once in the same round. Until then, he could hardly be technically or physically dangerous to Haye, who was 17 kg lighter and more toned.
After losing four of his last five fights, he fought the unknown Argentinian Hector Avila on April 20, 2013 and was able to defeat him by TKo in the ninth round. On July 20, 2013 in London he defeated the previously undefeated Malik Scott by TKo in the sixth round and thus won the international title of the WBO.
On September 21, 2013 Chisora was able to secure the vacant European Championship belt after a TKo victory in the fifth round against Edmund Gerber . His next triumph was on November 30, 2013 against Ondrej Pala by TKo in the third round and winning the WBA International Belt. The first title defense rose on February 15, 2014 against Kevin Johnson , which Chisora won unanimously on points.
He lost both of his belts on November 29, 2014 to his compatriot Tyson Fury , which took him out of the fight after the tenth round. Eight months later he met Beka Lobjanidze and won this fight by knockout in the first round. On September 26, 2015, he met Marcelo Nascimento, which Chisora was able to win after ten rounds.
A little later, on November 30, 2015, it was announced that Chisora was under contract with the German boxing association Sauerland Event . He fought his first fight for his new boxing stable on December 5, 2015 in Hamburg's Inselparkhalle against Peter Erdos, which Chisora won through TKo in the fifth round. A week later he met the unknown Croat Jakov Gospic in the London The O 2 in another test fight, which he won in the third round with TKo. He played his next fight in Germany on January 9, 2016 in the Offenburg Baden-Arena against the Hungarian Andras Csomor, which he won by TKo in the second round.
On the way to a World Cup fight, however, Chisora first had to play for the EBU European Championship on May 7, 2016 in the Hamburg Barclaycard Arena against the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulew . He lost this fight by several voices on points. For his next fight, he met the Bosnian Drazan Janjanin in a test fight in Stockholm's Hovet on September 10, 2016 . He won this fight by knockout in the second round.
On December 10, 2016, he boxed in the Manchester Arena against his compatriot Dillian Whyte for the British heavyweight championship and lost the even fight in a majority decision on points. In the run-up to this fight, there was a scandal after Chisora threw a table at his opponent in the press conference.
In May 2017, he announced the end of his collaboration with Sauerland Event , and he also moved to the management of Goodwin Boxing , a sister company of Matchroom Sport . He played his first fight after a ten-month break on September 30, 2017 in the Echo Arena Liverpool against the Croatian Robert Filipovic. He won this through TKO in the 5th round. In another chance for a world championship fight, he met European champion Agit Kabayel on November 4, 2017 in Monte Carlo , against whom he lost on points in 12 rounds.
On March 24, 2018, he met French Zakaria Azzouzi at The O 2 in London, which he won in the 2nd round with TKO. This opponent was chosen by his boxing stable. In July 2018 he won The O 2 against Carlos Takam by TKO in the London arena . This was followed by a knockout loss to Dillian White in the eighth round in December of the same year
In April 2019, he won on points against Senad Gashi .
