Edmund Gerber (born August 2, 1988 in the Kazakh SSR ) is a German heavyweight boxer . He and his family moved to Germany at the age of 15. Gerber lives in Schwerin.

Amateur career

Gerber was German junior heavyweight champion in 2006 and German junior super heavyweight runner-up in 2007.

In June 2005 he won the 10th European Cadet Heavyweight Championships in Siófok , Hungary . He defeated Sergey Barodich from Belarus, Arman Ataljan from Armenia, Aleksandar Aleksić from Austria and Rustan Shamilow from Azerbaijan. In June 2006 he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 1st Junior EU Championships in Rome . He lost to Remzi Özbek from Turkey on points in the semifinals.

In total he played 72 amateur fights, with 62 wins and only 10 losses.

Professional career

Gerber made his professional debut when he won the points over Jevgenijs Stamburskis on October 11, 2007. Eight more victories followed, which hardly attracted any attention. This changed on January 30, 2010, when he was the first boxer to defeat the experienced René Dettweiler by knockout in the 2nd round. After losing to Dereck Chisora for the vacant European Championship title in March 2013, it was announced that Gerber would end his career. In 2014, however, he returned and won the International Silver Heavyweight Title of the WBA on July 7 against the Mexican Vicente Sandez.
