Brian Matthew Minto (called The Beast ; born January 27, 1975 in Butler , Pennsylvania ) is an American boxer .

Career

Minto played his first professional fight on November 27, 2002 at the age of 27, having previously played only 18 amateur fights. In his first fight against a well-known opponent, the 46-year-old Tony Tubbs , briefly world champion of the WBA in the mid-1980s , he lost by split decision in December 2004.

In 2006, Axel Schulz selected him as an opponent for his comeback fight after seven years of abstinence from the ring. Minto won on November 25, 2006 with a technical knockout in the sixth round and thus ended the German's controversial comeback attempt.

On March 17, 2007, Minto boxed against Luan Krasniqi in Stuttgart . After an unclean but action-packed and tense fight, he went down in the twelfth round and was counted, but came up again and then lost the fight on points.

After he had won the next six fights, he fought on August 14, 2009 against the still undefeated Donnell Holmes for the vacant heavyweight title of the North American Association NABO . This fight had to be stopped after the fourth round because Minto had suffered a cut injury over the left eye as a result of an unintentional headbutt. Minto was in front of all three judges at this point and thus won the fight.

On December 5, 2009 Brian Minto fought in Atlantic City against Chris Arreola , who had previously suffered his first defeat against Vitali Klitschko . Minto went down in the first half of the fourth round and was counted. Just before the end of the fourth round, Minto went down for the second time. This time the referee stopped the fight because Minto was unable to continue fighting.

Minto decided to change the weight class and compete in cruiserweight in the future. He hoped for an opposition against which he has fewer weight and size disadvantages than in the heavyweight division. Despite losing to Arreola, Minto received his first World Cup chance on May 1, 2010 in his first fight in the new weight class. Opponent in the fight for the cruiserweight world championship according to the WBO version was the German defending champion Marco Huck . Minto lost the fight prematurely. After just one more fight in the cruiserweight division and a long period of inactivity, Minto decided to compete again in the heavyweight division in 2012. He lost his comeback in the heavyweight division on January 28, 2012 against the American Tony Grano, however, in the third round by knockout.

Minto then boxed out a mixed record, losing to Artur Szpilka in June 2013 , Michael Sprott in November 2013 , Joseph Parker in July 2014 , Dillian Whyte in September 2015 and Edmund Gerber in March 2016 . His most important win came in December 2013 against Shane Cameron (record: 29-3).
