Professional career

The 1.93 m tall, technically very strong and equipped with plenty of clout left-hand boom made his successful debut in Auckland City on July 5, 2011 , when he won against his compatriot Dean Garmonsway by a technical knockout in round 1.

The then 44-year-old South African Francois Botha (record 48-9-3) was the first well-known boxer that Parker could defeat in the pros. He succeeded in doing this on June 13, 2013 through TKo. In his 7th fight, he beat Afa Tatupu for the New Zealand championship. On April 26, 2014 he defeated Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (record 17-5-0) and thus won the interim PABA belt. In July of the same year, the Oriental title of the WBO was added when he defeated Brian Minto (record 39-7-0) in a battle scheduled for 10 rounds in the 7th round by giving up. In October of the same year he won against Sherman Williams (record 36-13-2) over 10 rounds clearly and unanimously on points. Just two months later, Parker also defended his title against Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior (15-1-0).

His next opponent was the American Jason Pettaway (17-1-0). Parker knocked him heavily in round 4 Also the German-Turk Yakup Saglam (34-3-0) had no chance and already lost in round 2 by TKo. Next he defeated Bowie Tupou (25-3-0) in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds . 0) in round 1 by classic knockout. This win earned him two more titles, namely the OPBF title, which was vacant , and the WBO Africa title.

In Parker's next fight, in addition to his four belts, the WBA Ocean and the WBC Eurasia Pacific titles, both of which were vacant, were at stake. His opponent was the 45-year-old, 1.96 m tall Kali Meehan (42-5-0-). As expected by almost all experts, Meehan also had no chance and was knocked out in the 3rd round.

Parker put down all belts except for the WBO Oriental and the WBC OPBF and successfully defended the WBO Oriental belt against Daniel Martz (14-2-1) with a knockout victory in Round 1.

On January 22, 2016, Parker met southpaw Jason Bergman in the Samoan capital, Apia . Parker won this 12-round battle in round 8 with a technical knockout. With this victory, Parker defended his WBO Oriental belt for the eighth time.

In Horncastle Arena in the New Zealand city of Christchurch , Canterbury , joined Parker on May 21 of that year in an IBF eliminator bout against the muscular and robust built in France living Cameroonian Carlos Takam (33-2-1 record) and decided this fight by a unanimous decision of the judges (116: 112, 116: 112, 115: 113).

Exactly two months later, Parker defended the title of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF for short) for the second time and the WBO Oriental title for the ninth time when he gave his compatriot Solomon Haumono (record 24-2-2) his second K. .-o.-defeat.

The Ukrainian giant Alexander Dimitrenko also knocked out hard (classic) round 3 against Parker on October 1, 2016 at the Vodafone Events Center in Auckland. With this win, Parker defended his Oriental belt for the tenth time.

Win the WBO world title

When the Briton Tyson Fury resigned the WBA and WBO world championship titles in October of the same year because of depression, Parker and the also undefeated Mexican Andy Ruiz were allowed to box for the vacant WBO world championship title, as both placed accordingly in the WBO world rankings were. This fight took place on December 10, 2016 at the Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Parker won by majority decision, becoming the first New Zealand heavyweight world champion.

Title defenses

Hughie Fury , Tyson Fury's cousin, was number 1 in the WBO world rankings and a mandatory challenger to Parker. The fight was scheduled for May 6, 2017 at the Vodafone Events Center in Auckland. However, Fury suffered an injury during training which made it impossible to attend the fight. The WBO then granted Parker a voluntary title defense, which required an opponent in the top 15. Parker then competed on May 6, 2017 against the 2.02 meter tall Romanian Răzvan Cojanu (16-2-0), who had a range of 2.06 meters, and easily defeated him on points (117: 110, 117 : 110, 119: 108).

The fight against the British Fury, which was canceled due to injury, was made up for on September 24th. In the Manchester Arena in Great Britain, Joseph Parker was able to successfully defend his WBO world title a second time. Unlike the Romanian Cojanu, however, it was only enough for a majority decision against Fury. (114: 114, 118: 110, 118: 110)

The end of undefeated

At the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff , Parker lost his WBO world champion belt in a unification title to the British Anthony Joshua on March 31, 2018, clearly and unanimously on points. Around 78,000 spectators saw a boring fight in stages. In this fight, in addition to Parker's WBO title, the IBF and WBA (Superchampion) world titles were at stake.

On July 28, 2018, he was unanimously defeated by the British boxer Dillian Whyte on points (113-112, 115-110, 114-111) and thus suffered the second defeat in his career as a professional. In addition, it was the first time in his entire professional career that Parker fell to the ground with a regular hit and was counted in.
