Erik Pfeifer (* 22. January 1987 in Asbestos , Sverdlovsk Oblast , former Soviet Union ) is a German professional boxer and current European Champion of the World Federation WBO in the heavyweight division .
As an amateur, he was a five-time German champion, winner of the EU championships in 2009, bronze medalist at the world championships in 2011 and 2013, as well as an Olympian in 2012 and 2016. In 2016, he became the first boxer to win the APB world championship title of the amateur world association AIBA .
Career
Erik Pfeifer moved from Russia to Lohne in Lower Saxony in 1994 and started boxing at the Blau-Weiß Lohne sports club . Later he also trained at the Olympic base in Heidelberg and, as a sports soldier, was also a member of the Bundeswehr's sports promotion group . With a fighting weight of over 100 kg, he always boxed as an amateur in the super heavyweight (+ 91 kg).
In 2016 he was awarded the Lower Saxony Sports Medal.
German championships
Erik Pfeifer became German Junior Champion in 2005 and won a bronze medal at the German Adult Championships in 2007 after being eliminated in the semifinals against Erkan Teper .
In 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013 he won the title of German Champion.
European championships, world championships and Olympic games
Erik Pfeifer won a bronze medal at the Junior European Championships in Estonia in 2005 , where he also managed a victory against Andrzej Wawrzyk . He then only reappeared when he won the EU championships in Denmark in 2009 . He also started at the 2009 World Championships in Italy , but lost there in the round of 16 against Zhang Zhilei .
At the 2011 World Championships in Azerbaijan he defeated, among others, Roman Kapitonenko and Wiktar Sujeu , which made him move into the semifinals. There he was eliminated from Anthony Joshua with a bronze medal. With this success he was qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he lost to Ivan Dytschko in the preliminary round .
He ended the 2013 European Championships in Belarus with a defeat in the quarterfinals against Sergei Kuzmin , but won another bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan . He beat Mihai Nistor and lost again in the semifinals to Iwan Dytschko.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he lost in the preliminary round to Clayton Laurent .
World Series of Boxing (WSB)
In 2010 the semi-professional World Series of Boxing , designed as a team championship, came about . Pfeifer took part for the German Eagles team in 2012/13 and for Team Germany in 2013/14. In 2013 the team was eliminated in the group stage and in 2014 in the quarter-finals.

AIBA Pro Boxing
From October 2014 the amateur boxing association AIBA organized a world championship tournament cycle under professional conditions, which also served as qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games. Pfeifer won against the professional boxer Ahmed Samir, who lives in the USA, against the later world and Olympic champion Tony Yoka , as well as against the two-time European championship bronze winner Mihai Nistor and the African champion Mohamed Arjaoui , becoming the organization's first APB world champion and buying a ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games. He lost the APB title to Mihai Nistor in a rematch in 2015.

Professional career
In August 2018 Pfeifer signed a professional contract with the Hamburg boxing stable EC Boxpromotion of the promoter Erol Ceylan. He won his debut on September 15, 2018 in Hamburg against the Georgian Davit Gogishvili.
After six wins in a row, on November 16, 2019 in Halle (Saale) he boxed against the Bosnian Adnan Redžović for the European heavyweight championship title of the WBO and won through technical knockout (TKO) after his opponent gave up at the end of the fifth round.
