Mihai Nistor (* 5. November 1990 in Podu Iloaiei ) is a Romanian boxer in the heavyweight division .

Career

Mihai Nistor is around 1.83 m tall, weighs 105 kg, started boxing in 2005 and has been fighting in the Romanian national team since 2010.

Amateur career

Mihai Nistor is Romanian champion 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. His first big success was winning the silver medal at the World Combat Games 2010 in Beijing , when he was only defeated in the final against Zhang Zhilei . At the European Championships in Ankara in 2011 , he defeated Petar Belberow and Anthony Joshua , among others , before losing to Roberto Cammarelle in the semifinals and retiring with a bronze medal. He then took part in the 2011 World Championships in Baku , but lost in the second fight against Filip Hrgović .

In the European Olympic qualification in 2012 in Trabzon , he defeated Otto Wallin , but then failed in the fight for a place in the semifinals against Tony Yoka . In 2013 he took part in the European Championships in Minsk , but was disqualified in the fight for entry into the medal ranks against Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov . He had to end the 2013 World Championships in Almaty after losing in the second fight against Erik Pfeifer .

At the European Championships in Samokow in 2015 , he again won a bronze medal after being eliminated in the semifinals by Filip Hrgović. Due to injuries, he was unable to participate in the 2015 World Championships in Doha . At that time his record was 157 fights with 138 wins.

After qualifying for it via the APB mode, he took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There he was disputed in the round of 16 against Hussein Iashaish . In 2017 he lost to Viktor Wychryst in the quarterfinals of the European Championships in Kharkiv . Although he qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg by reaching the quarter-finals at the European Championships , he did not take part with the Romanian national team.

At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, he lost in the first fight against Mourad Aliyev.

World Series of Boxing

Since the 2012/13 season Mihai Nistor fought for the Astana Arlans team in the World Series of Boxing and won the championship with his team. He had also managed to win against Clemente Russo .

In the 2013/14 season Nistor fought for Italia Thunder and won three of four fights.

AIBA Pro Boxing

Since October 2014 Nistor started in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the amateur association AIBA. In the first cycle, Nistor was able to win against Ali Kiydin, but lost to Mohamed Arjaoui and Erik Pfeifer . In the second cycle Nistor won against Magomed Omarow and this time against Mohamed Arjaoui, so that he qualified for the title fight of the APB against Erik Pfeifer. Nistor won this fight by technical knockout in the ninth round, becoming APB world champion and also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Professional career

In July 2019, Nistor was signed by the US promoter Golden Boy Promotions and won his debut on December 5, 2019 against the Mexican Christian Mariscal (match record: 13-4) by knockout in the third round.
