Unathi Moham (m) ed (Al-) Arjaoui ( Arabic محمد العرجاوي, DMG Muḥammad al-ʿArǧāwī ; * June 6, 1987 in Mohammedia ) is a Moroccan super heavyweight amateur boxer. He is around 1.87 m tall and was an Olympian in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Career

Arjaoui's first international men's competition was a tournament in Fès , Morocco , in which he finished third in the heavyweight division (up to 91 kg). The following year took part for the first time in an international championship, the Pan-Arab Games , but was eliminated early in the first fight against Ihab Darweesh , Jordan . In 2008 Arjaoui took part in the African Olympic qualification tournament in Algiers and reached the final and thus the qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There he won the first fight against Brad Pitt , Australia (11: 6), but then lost very narrowly in the quarterfinals to the eventual bronze medalist Deontay Wilder , United States (+10: 10).

In 2009 Arjaoui won his first medal at an international championship. At the Mediterranean Games in 2009 he could u. a. Bahram Muzaffer , Turkey (10: 8), before losing in the semi-finals to the winner of the 2007 African Games Mourad Sahraoui, Tunisia (6: 2), to win a bronze medal. The 2009 World Championships end for Arjaoui in the quarter-finals against the later silver medalist Osmay Acosta , Cuba (6-2). At the Francophonie Games in the same year, he fought for a silver medal. In the 2010/2011 season Arjaoui fought for the Istanbul Bulls for the first time in the World Series of Boxing . Fighting in the super heavyweight (over 91 kg) for the first time, he wins three out of five fights. In 2011 Arjaoui won the silver medal at the African Championships before he won the first fight against Sergei Kuzmin , Russia (12: 9) at the World Championships , but then was eliminated in the round of 16 against the later silver medalist Anthony Joshua , United Kingdom (16: 7). At the Pan-Arab Games in the same year, Arjaoui can win his first gold medal. In the 2011/12 season he entered only one fight for the Los Angeles Matadors in the World Series of Boxing, which he lost. In 2012 Arjaoui achieved his second qualification for the Olympic Games with a victory at the African Olympic qualification tournament . At the games in London, he then wins the first fight against Blaise Yepmou , Cameroon (15: 6), before losing in the quarter-finals to defending champion and later silver medalist Roberto Cammarelle , Italy , with just 12:11 points.

In the 2012/13 season Arjaoui enters again only one fight for the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing, which he lost against Filip Hrgović , Croatia , with 3-0 judges votes. In 2013 he won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games and in 2014 one at the World Military Championships. In 2015 he won the gold medal at the African Championships before he beat Edgar Muñoz , Venezuela , in the third round of the World Championships in the first fight by TKO, but then was eliminated in the round of 16 against the later bronze medalist Joseph Joyce , United Kingdom (3-0). Arjaoui made up for the missed qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games at the African Olympic qualification tournament in 2016. He was able to qualify for the third time for the Olympic Games.
