Ihab Darweesh

Ihab Mahmoud Darweesh Al-Matbouli (born November 6, 1985 in Jordan ) is a Jordanian heavyweight amateur boxer and 2012 light heavyweight Olympic competitor .

Boxing career

Ihab Darweesh is one of the greatest heavyweight talents in the Arab-Asian region. The multiple national champion (most recently in 2014 and 2015) won the silver medal at the Pan-Arab Games in Egypt and a bronze medal at the Arab Championships in Tunisia in 2007 . In 2009, two more bronze medals followed at the Arab Championships in Egypt and the Asian Championships in the People's Republic of China .

In 2011 he won gold medals at the Pan-Arab Games and the Arab Championships in Qatar . He then started at the Asian Olympic qualification 2012 in Kazakhstan and reached third place in the light heavyweight division. Thus he qualified as the first Jordanian boxer for the Olympic Games. At the 2012 Summer Games in London he defeated Lukmon Lawal from Nigeria (19: 7) in the preliminary round, but was eliminated in the round of 16 against Julio César La Cruz from Cuba (8:25).

At the Asian Championships in Jordan in 2013 he again won a silver medal and a bronze medal at the Asian Games in South Korea in 2014 . His opponents defeated so far include Mohamed Arjaoui , Wang Xuanxuan and Ali Mazaheri . He reached the round of 16 at the 2007, 2009 and 2011 World Championships, and the preliminary round at the 2015 World Cup.

At the Asia-Oceanic Olympic qualification in China in 2016, he lost to David Nyika in the round of 16 of the heavyweight division .
