Julio César La Cruz Peraza (born August 11, 1989 in Camagüey ) is a Cuban boxer . He is Olympic champion (2016) and four-time world champion (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) in the light heavyweight division .

Career

National championships

Julio César La Cruz comes from Camagüey and is an excellent stylist with a lot of courage and a willingness to take risks. In 2007 he boxed his way into the light heavyweight division of the Cuban elite. He proved this emphatically at the team championship of the Cuban performance centers in October 2007, where he started for Camagüey and with Lisael Herrera, Isael Secadas, Yordanis Despaigne , Adrian Gonzalez and Erislandy Savón , defeated almost the entire top Cuban in the light heavyweight division and with the team the reached second place.

He then continued his winning streak at the 2008 Cuban Championship, where he defeated Yoandri Marco, Yurixander Aguilar, Yunier Dorticos and Yordanis Despaigne and became the Cuban light heavyweight champion. At the Cuban Championships in 2009 he was eliminated from Julio Iglesias with a bronze medal in the semifinals, but won against this at the Cuban Team Championships, as well as against Alain Herrera, Jose Chapotin and Reinier Castillo. He suffered the only defeat against Yaikel Kindelán, but his team Camagüey became team champions.

In 2010 he was Cuban champion again with a final victory against Georky Barrientos and this time defeated Yaikel Kindelán in the semifinals 10-0. At the team championships he reached second place with Camagüey and won all three fights, including again against Yaikel Kindelán (11: 2). In addition, he won the Cuban National Challenge in the final against José Larduet and also won the Cuban Olympiad with victories against Irosvany Duvergel, Georky Barrientos and Yaikel Kindelán.

In 2011 he was again Cuban champion and won the team championship with his team. He repeated winning the Cuban light heavyweight championship in the following five years from 2012 to 2016, before winning the Cuban heavyweight championships for the first time in 2017.

Continental championships

At his first Pan American Championships in Ecuador in 2010 , he moved into the final against Elmer Salguero and Francisco Ortega, where he lost 9:10 to Ítalo Perea . In 2011 he won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico by defeating Jeffrey Spencer, Carlos Góngora and Yamaguchi Falcão . By beating Juan Carrillo in the final, he also won qualification for the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games , which were also held in Mexico, and won by beating Juan Carrillo in the final again.

At the 2015 Pan American Games in Canada , he repeated winning the gold medal by winning fights against Carlos Mina , Juan Carrillo and Albert Ramírez . However , he ended the Pan American Championships in Venezuela in 2015 after a final defeat against Albert Ramírez with the silver medal. However , he won the 2017 Pan American Championships in Honduras again against Ian Darby, Jeysson Monroy and Carlos Mina.

In 2018 he won qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games. He had prevailed against Luis Gorger, Osmán Bravo and Rogelio Romero. At the games themselves he won the gold medal by beating Rogelio Romero in the final. He won another gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru .

World championships

At his first world championships in Baku in 2011 , he already won the world title through victorious duels against Michail Dauhaljawez , Caner Soyak, Enrico Kölling , Damien Hooper , Yegor Mechonzew and Aedilbek Nijasymbetow . In 2013 in Almaty he repeated this success with victories against Serge Michel , Olexandr Ganzulya, Abdelhafid Benchabla , Joe Ward and again Ädilbek Nijasymbetow.

In 2015 in Doha he prevailed again in the final fight against Joe Ward and won his third world title in a row. In the semi-finals he had defeated Pawel Siljagin , in the quarter-finals Hrvoje Sep and in the second round Joshua Buatsi . In 2017 in Hamburg he beat Rogelio Romero, Ibragim Basuew, Carlos Mina and Joe Ward on the way to his fourth world title. Olympic games

World Series of Boxing

In the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Julio César La Cruz is team captain of the Cuban team "Cuba Domadores", with which he won the championship title in the first season of their participation in 2013/14.
