Veit Probst

Veit Probst (born October 9, 1958 in Heidelberg ) is a German philologist , historian , librarian and director of the Heidelberg University Library .

Life

After graduating from the humanistic Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium in Mannheim, Probst studied Classical Philology, Philosophy and History at the Universities of Heidelberg and Mannheim and as a scholarship holder at the German Historical Institute in Rome . In 1989 he received his doctorate summa cum laude with a historical thesis at the University of Mannheim.

After completing his traineeship in the library, Probst started working in the Heidelberg University Library in 1990 to research the Palatina manuscripts. Soon afterwards he took on specialist librarianship tasks and a little later he was also given a managerial role in the acquisitions department of the university library. In 2000 he moved from the head of acquisitions to the office of the library manager. Since 2002 he has been the director of the university library.
