Erislandy Savón Cotilla (* 27 July 1990 in Guantánamo ) is a Cuban boxers in the super heavyweight . He is a nephew of three-time Olympic champion Félix Savón .

Career

In 2007 Savón first took part in the Cuban men's championships, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. At the championships in the following year, he finished third. At the Junior World Championships in the same year, Savón won the gold medal in the heavyweight division (-91 kg).

In 2009 Savón also won the Pan American Super Heavyweight Championships (+91 kg) and took part in the World Championships for the first time , in which, however, after victories over Andrew Jones, Wales (RSC 1st), and Gilton Benjey Zimmerman, Netherlands Antilles (11: 4 ), lost in the quarter-finals to the later silver medalist Roman Kapitanenko , Russia (17: 6).

At the Pan American Championships in 2011 he lost in the final against Julio Castillo , Ecuador (12: 1), and thus won the silver medal. The following year he started at the World Championships . After victories over Denizcan Gokkaya, Turkey (RSC 1st), and Tony Yoka , France (KO 2nd), he lost in the quarter-finals to eventual world champion Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov , Azerbaijan (RSC 2nd), which put him in 5th place. In the same year he was also able to win the Cuban championship title for the first time.

With 5th place at the World Championships, Savón qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games , in which, however, he was knocked out in the first fight against the local hero and eventual winner Anthony Joshua , Great Britain (17:16). At the end of the year Savón starts in the Cuban championships in the super heavyweight (+91 kg) but lost the final against Yoandris Toirac.

At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , Savón was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Teymur Məmmədov , Azerbaijan (2: 1) after victories over Heo Jin-Ho, South Korea (TKO 1st) and Chouaib Bouloudinats , Algeria (3-0) . In 2014 Savón won the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz and the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015 and the Pan American Championships in Vargas with a final victory over Yamil Peralta , Argentina (3-0). At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he won the silver medal after beating Julio Castillo , Ecuador (3-0), Rustam Toʻlaganov , Uzbekistan (3-0), and Abdulkadir Abdullayev , Azerbaijan (3-0), and in the final against Yevgeny Tishchenko , Russia a (3-0), was eliminated. Since only the world champion qualified directly for the 2016 Olympic Games in the heavyweight division , Savón had to take part in the American Olympic qualification tournament in Argentina in March 2016, which it won.

At the 2016 Olympic Games he won a bronze medal after failing against Vasily Levit in the semifinals. After winning the Pan American Championships in 2017 , he took part in the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he defeated the Olympic champion Yevgeny Tishchenko in the final and became world champion for the first time. In the semifinals he had beaten Wassili Lewit and in the quarterfinals Cheavan Clarke .

Erislandy Savón has been fighting for the Cuba Domadores in the World Series of Boxing since 2013 . To date (July 2016) he has played 21 fights in the World Series, all of which he won without exception. He won the World Series of Boxing title with the Cuba Domadores in 2014 and 2016.
