Vasily Lewit (* 24. February 1988 ) is a Kazakh boxer in the heavyweight division (-91 kg).

Career

amateur

In the youth division (U17), Wassili Lewit was Asian heavyweight champion in Hanoi in 2004 . With the juniors (U19) he was able to repeat this success in 2006 in Goa .

At the 2008 Student World Championships in Kazan , Levit won his first medal at an international men's championship with a silver medal. The following year he won in Zhuhai with victories a. a. over Ali Mazaheri , Iran (11: 3) the Asian Cup. At the 2009 World Championships in Milan , he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Clemente Russo , Italy (14: 4).

In 2010 Lewit failed in the round of 16 of the Asian Games in Guangzhou against the later gold medalist Mohammad Ghosoun, Syria (11: 6). At the World Championships 2011 in Baku Levit fought with victories a. a. via Alexander Powernow , Germany (16: 8), to the quarterfinals, which he lost to Wang Xuanxuan , People's Republic of China (11: 9). The resulting missed qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing , Levit tried to make up for in 2012 at the Asian Olympic qualification tournament in Astana . However, he lost here again to Mohammad Ghosoun and missed the qualification.

With a final victory against Rustam Toʻlaganov , he won the Asian Championships in Thailand in 2015. At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Heworh Manukjan . He started at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and fought his way to the final against Yu Fengkai, Kennedy St-Pierre and Erislandy Savón , where he lost in a controversial verdict against Yevgeny Tishchenko .

In 2017 he again won the Asian Championships in Tashkent and thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he won a bronze medal. After victories against Juan Nogueira and Jason Whateley , he was eliminated in the semifinals against Erislandy Savón .

In the Asian Championships in 2019 , he won bronze, also at the World Championships in 2019 in Yekaterinburg .

World Series of Boxing

In the 2013/14 season Lewit played four regular season fights for the Astana Arlans in the World Series of Boxing , which he all, u. a. also against Abdulqədir Abdullayev , won. During the playoffs Lewit was used in the quarterfinals against Team Germany and in the semifinals against the Azerbaijan Baku Fires, where he won both fights.

In the 2015 season, Lewit was used in all seven regular season bouts and won all of them. He took first place in the ranking of his weight class this season and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games . In the playoffs he was used in the semifinals against the Russian Boxing Team and the final against the Cuba Domadores. In the semifinals he won against Vitaliy Kudukhov, in the final he lost to Erislandy Savón . Nevertheless, his team was able to win the championship title.
