Jason Whateley (* 18th November 1990 in Sale , Victoria ) is an Australian boxer in the heavyweight division .
Career
Jason Whateley took part in a heavyweight (up to 91 kg) national selection tournament in 2010 , in which he took second place and was then able to take part in international tournaments in Guantanamo and Camagüey for the first time, but was not successful. In 2011 he won the Arafura Games , Whateley could not prevail against Jai Opetaia at the national level until mid-2013 . In 2013 he was nominated for participation in the World Championships , but was eliminated in the first fight.
In 2014 he lost again to Opetaia at the Australian Championships. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 Whateley became the Australian heavyweight champion. In 2015 he won the silver medal of the Oceanic Championships, where he lost in the final to the winner of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, David Nyika , New Zealand (3-0). At the World Championships, which took place in the same year, he was again defeated in the first fight: In 2016, Whateley achieved third place in the Asia-Oceanic Olympic qualification in China with a victory over Dschachan Kurbanow , Tajikistan (2: 1) and thus qualified for the Summer Olympic Games 2016 . There he was eliminated from Brazil in the first fight against Juan Nogueira.
At the Oceanic Championships in 2017 , he again won a silver medal. He was qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Vasily Levit .
He won another silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after losing to David Nyika in the final.
