Oceanic Boxing Championships

The Oceania championships in boxing (Original; Oceanian Boxing Championships ) are boxing matches in the amateur field for men and women of the states of Oceania . They have been held at irregular intervals since 1969 under the rules of the AIBA and form a counterpart to the Africa , American , Asian and European championships . They are organized by the oceanic boxing association OCBC .

The 1st Oceanic Championships were held in Sydney , Australia in 1969 . In the following years, the championships were usually held every one to two years, with no staging between 1974 and 1979. In 2012 the competitions were organized as an oceanic Olympic qualification for the Olympic Games in London , in 2017 as an exclusive qualification tournament for the World Championships in Hamburg .

At the Oceanic Championships 2017 , 39 boxers from eight nations competed and fought 29 fights.
