After the end of World War II , all sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) were permanently banned. As a substitute, the formation of loosely organized sports communities (SG) was permitted, which were initially only allowed to carry out sports competitions in a very limited local context. Such a sports community also emerged in Probstzella. Their soccer team won the championship in the Saalfeld district in 1948 . Subsequently, the SG qualified for the 1948/49 state soccer class for the first time in Thuringia to determine the Thuringian soccer champions. At that time, the national class was one of the four highest football leagues in the Soviet Zone. Among eight teams in Season 1 of the national class, the Probstzellaer took last place and had to relegate. Under the name SG Fichte Probstzella, the footballers also descended from the Thuringia district class.

In the following three seasons, the Probstzellaer had to compete in the district league before they were promoted to the Gera district class in 1953 . The SG Fichte had previously been converted into the company sports community (BSG) Turbine Probstzella. The local thermal power plant acted as the carrier company . The BSG could only stay in the district class in the 1953/54 season, followed by three more years in the district area. In the 1958 season (calendar year season) the BSG Turbine tried again to gain a foothold in the district class, which at that time was only fifth class after the introduction of the 2nd GDR league . This only worked for two years.

In 1960 the BSG Turbine finally had a soccer team that managed to play for a longer period at the district level. Initially, the return to the district class succeeded, in the 1961/62 season (return to the summer-spring season) even promotion to the district league . However, the Probstzellaer had the misfortune that after the end of the season the district league was reduced from two to one season. Ninth place among twelve teams was not enough for relegation.

From 1963/64 the district class was fourth class after the elimination of the II. GDR League, and the BSG Turbine managed to establish itself in this division in the long term. Only after the 1981/82 season had to start again in the district league. In 1983 and 1987 it was enough for two or one seasons for the district class, from 1988 Turbine Probstzella remained in the district area until the end of the GDR soccer game in 1990. During its entire existence the BSG Turbine was limited in its possibilities, on the one hand by the small number of inhabitants of the place, which fluctuated around 2500, and on the other hand by the fact that Probstzella was within the 5 km exclusion zone , which can only be entered with special permission could.

After the political change of 1989/90 the company sports association Turbine was converted into the registered association Probstzellaer SV.
