Djakhan Kurbanov

Dschachan Kurbanow (born February 12, 1986 in Leninobod; today: Khujand ) is a boxer from Tajikistan . Kurbanow was a participant in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and bronze medalist at the 2010 Asian Games .

Career

Dschachan Kurbanow first appeared in the international boxing scene of amateurs in 2005, when he became Asian middleweight champion in Ho Chi Minh City with a victory over Cho Deok Jin from South Korea at the age of 19 .

In 2007 he started at the Asian Cup in Ulaanbaatar a weight class higher, in the light heavyweight division, and lost there in the quarterfinals against Zhang Xiaoping from China on points. He came in 5th place. At the world championship of the same year in Chicago he won his first fight against Luis Gonzalez from Venezuela on points, but lost in his next fight against Yerkabulan Schindijew from Kazakhstan by disqualification in the 4th round. Together with the losers of this round, he finished 17th.

Dschachan Kurbanow showed himself to be much better at the first Asian qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 in Bangkok . There he defeated Song Hak-Sung from South Korea by breaking off in the 3rd round, then won on points over Tschingis Borbaschew from Kyrgyzstan and also scored a breaking victory in the 3rd round over Zhang Xiaoping, against whom he had lost at the 2007 World Cup. In 2009 Kurbomow failed in the heavyweight division (-91 kg) starting at the World Championships in the preliminary round to Vitalijus Subacius, Lithuania (RSC 3rd). The following year he was more successful and won the bronze medal at the Asian Games .

At the Asian Championships in 2011, Kurbanow lost his first fight against Ihab Almatbouli, Jordan (RSC 2nd), and at this year's World Championships he did not get past the second round, which he lost against Artur Beterbijew , Russia (AB 2nd) .
