His greatest successes so far were the gold medal at the 15th Asian Games in 2006 in Doha and the gold medal at the 24th Asian Championships in 2007 in Ulaanbaatar . In addition, he won a bronze medal each at the 25th Asian Championships in Zhuhai in 2009 and the 16th Asian Games in 2010 in Guangzhou .

At the 14th World Championships in Chicago in 2007 , he lost in the preliminary round against Milorad Gajović from Serbia. Also at the 29th Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008 he lost in the first fight against the later Olympic champion Rachim Tschachkijew .

He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , where he also served as the flag bearer of the Iranian delegation at the opening ceremony . In his first fight he met the Cuban José Larduet and was highly controversial three times warned and finally disqualified. Mazaheri and his support team then protested, whereupon the world boxing association AIBA took up the matter. After evaluating the video recordings, the German referee Frank Scharmach was temporarily suspended. Since the Iranian team apparently failed to lodge a formal objection to the result in time, the Cuban won the day.

At the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea, he won the silver medal.
