Milorad Gajović

Milorad Gajović (born July 27, 1974 in Nikšić ) is a boxer from Montenegro . He won, at that time still starting for Yugoslavia , a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the European Championships in 2000 .

Career

Milorad Gajović comes from the Montenegrin Podgorica . He started boxing in what was then Yugoslavia in his youth. He did not appear at international championships until 2000, when he was already 26 years old. Right at his first start at an international championship, the European Championship 2000 in Tampere , he achieved his greatest success of his boxer career. He won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division there. In the semifinals he was defeated by the Russian Alexander Lebsjak .

At the 2001 Mediterranean Games in Tunis , he had another success. He won the heavyweight tournament there and won the final over Omar Bellaouati from France . He also showed good fights at the 2003 World Cup in Bangkok . He beat there György Hídvégi from Hungary by breaking off in the third round and defeated Vyacheslav Uselkow from Ukraine on points. In the quarter-finals, he gave the high favorite Odlanier Solís from Cuba an evenly balanced fight over long distances and was only barely defeated with 17:20 points. He finished fifth at this world championship.

In 2004 he won the Beogradski Pobednik tournament in Belgrade in the heavyweight division with a final victory over Christos Filippou from Cyprus . Milorad Gajović had no success at the 2006 European Championships in Plovdiv , because he was eliminated in the first preliminary round with a defeat against József Darmos from Hungary.

At the 2007 World Cup in Chicago , Milorad Gajović achieved three wins. He won against Ali Mazaheri from Iran (20: 9) and Vedran Đipalo from Croatia (22:12) on points and defeated the Scottish Stephen Simmons by abandoning in the fourth round. Only in the quarterfinals he was eliminated from the eventual world champion Clemente Russo from Italy with a point defeat (2:15). He finished fifth again.

In 2008 he first tried in Pescara to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing .
