Steffen Kretschmann (born June 8, 1980 in Koethen ) is a former German heavyweight boxer.

amateur

The southpaw boxed as an amateur for the boxing department of SV Halle and won 122 fights with 19 defeats and three draws. His first international success was winning the European championship in the age group of cadets (U-17) in the light heavyweight division in Aosta in 1996 . In 1997 he finished second at the European Junior Championships in Birmingham .

Meanwhile boxing in the heavyweight division, he started as a German representative at the Junior World Championship in Buenos Aires in 1998 . After a points win over the Italian Roberto Cammarelle , he met the eventual Olympic champion of 2004 Odlanier Solís in the quarterfinals and lost to the Cuban 1: 8 on points.

After moving to the seniors, he took part in the World Amateur Championship in Houston in 1999 and was able to advance to the semi-finals there. His opponent in this encounter was the American Michael Bennett . However, Kretschmann sprained his hand in the fight while attempting an uppercut, had to give up after the second round due to injury and thus finished the World Cup in third place.

In 1999, 2001 and 2002 Kretschmann was German heavyweight champion. In 2002 he defeated Dieter Roth in the final .

Professional career

In October 2006, Kretschmann signed a professional contract with the Hamburg Boxstall Arena Box-Promotion and made his successful professional debut on November 10, 2006. After winning his first 13 fights against opponents, he was supposed to face Denis Bakhtov , the reigning heavyweight champion of the Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) on March 6, 2009 , but had to fight because of a torn eardrum in training that required an operation , initially cancel. The fight against Bakhtov was then postponed to June 26, 2009 in Völklingen and Kretschmann was defeated by the Russian through a technical knockout in the first round. On March 27, 2010 there was a rematch against Bakhtov in the Hamburg sports hall , whom Kretschmann gave up in the ninth round while in the lead.

On September 14, 2012 he boxed against Timo Hoffmann ; However, the fight ended in the sixth round without valuation, since the onset of rain prevented the open-air event from continuing.

Kretschmann's last professional fight so far was on November 8, 2014 against Georgian David Gegeshidze. Kretschmann won the fight by technical knockout in round 3.
