Alexander Wjatscheslawowitsch Alexejew ( Russian Александр Вячеславович Алексеев , English transcription: Aleksander Alekseev ; born April 30, 1981 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian boxer.

amateur

South African Alexejew became an amateur in 1999 in Rijeka , in the light heavyweight division, junior European champion, after his promotion to the heavyweight division three-time Russian champion (2002, 2003, 2005) and in 2002 in Curragh (final victory over Dieter Roth ) and in 2003 in Catania military world champion.

At the Amateur World Championship in Bangkok in 2003 , he finished second. After the semi-final victory over Steffen Kretschmann, he was defeated in the final by the Cuban Odlanier Solís just on points. In 2004 he won the European Championship in Pula and participated in the Olympic Games in 2004 Athens part. There he was drawn, however, in the first fight to the later gold medalist Solís and lost to him with 21:24 points.

His greatest amateur success was finally winning the title at the 2005 World Championships in Mianyang , People's Republic of China . He defeated, among other things, in the semifinals by a controversial point victory 36:33 Alexander Powernow .

Professional career

In 2006 Alexejew turned pro at Spotlight Boxing , a sister company of Universum Box-Promotion . His trainer was Fritz Sdunek . He began his professional career first in the heavyweight division, but then switched to the cruiserweight division after a few fights .

On January 17, 2009 he boxed against Victor Emilio Ramírez in the Düsseldorf Burg-Wächter Castello for the interim world championship of the WBO association. The highly favored Alexejew surprisingly lost the fight against the unknown Argentine by giving up in the ring break for the tenth round. Alexejew had never been in the ring for more than six rounds in his build-up fights and in the second half of the fight he got increasingly stamina problems, as a result of which he repeatedly had to take heavy hits in the ninth round. This finally caused his trainer Fritz Sdunek to break off the fight.

After this surprising defeat, Alexejew played three more development fights in 2009. Since Sdunek initially restricted his coaching activity at Universum-Boxporomotion in October 2009 for health reasons and later ended it, Magomed Schaburow became his new trainer. On July 17, 2010, Alexander Alexejew competed in the Schwerin Sports and Congress Hall against his compatriot Denis Lebedew in an elimination match of the WBO association; the winner of the duel would be the mandatory challenger to the title holder Marco Huck . Alexejew lost against the undefeated Lebedev, who was number one in the WBO rankings, by knockout . in the second round. Alexejev won his next fights in 2011 against DeAndrey Abron and Damian Norris prematurely by technical knockout.

Alexejev changed his promoter in 2011. He is now in EC - Boxing in Hamburg under contract. On November 18, 2011 he won the vacant WBC International title (TKO 8 round) against Daniel Bruwer in Cuxhaven . Since February 4, 2012 Alexejev is after a victory against Enad Licina EBU European cruiserweight champion (points win, unanimously).

On May 11, 2012, he boxed against Firat Arslan in Göppingen . The fight ended in a draw, thanks to which Alexeyev retained his title. On November 23, 2013, he lost an IBF World Championship fight by knockout against Yoan Pablo Hernández .

After the loss to Hernández, Alexejew announced his retirement as an active boxer and a change in the promoter business.
