Jackson Chanet (born February 7, 1978 in Saint-Dizier ) is a former French boxer and European champion among amateurs and professionals.

Amateur career

The 1.73 m tall son of European heavyweight champion Jean-Maurice Chanet began boxing at the age of twelve and made his amateur career exclusively in the heavyweight division. He was French Junior Champion in 1995 and French Champion in 1998, 1999 and 2000. In May 1999 he started at the international French French Open tournament , where he was able to outdo the highly rated Nigerian Samuel Peter and only lost to the Italian Giacobbe Fragomeni in the semi- finals.

With a third place at the Finnish Tammer Tournament (October 1999) and the Greek Acropolis Cup (December 1999), he qualified for participation in the 33rd European Championships in 2000 in Tampere . There he was able to prevail against Sebastian Köber from Germany, Magomed Aripgadschiew from Azerbaijan, Emil Garai from Hungary and Sultan Ibragimow from Russia and won the gold medal. Along with winning the English multinationals tournament in Liverpool , he had also qualified for participation in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . There he came through an early victory against Mohamed Azzaoui from Algeria in the quarter-finals, where he suffered a point defeat this time against the Russian Sultan Ibragimow and was eliminated in 6th place.

Professional career

After the Olympic Games, he switched to the professional camp and won his first 26 fights in a row. He defeated, among other things, Zoltán Béres and became French light heavyweight champion and EU super middleweight champion. On November 18, 2005 he won the EBU European title in super middleweight; he defeated the undefeated Ukrainian Vitaly Tsipko unanimously on points. However, he lost the title in his first defense by knockout defeat to the Armenian Mher Mkrtchjan.

Another attempt to secure the European Championship belt failed on December 2, 2006 when he lost points to David Gogia from Russia. After a knockout loss on January 7, 2011 against the Serb Geard Ajetović , he ended his boxing career with a record of 29 wins (15 knockout) and 3 defeats.
