Teymur Füzuli oğlu Məmmədov (born January 11, 1993 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani amateur boxer in the heavyweight division (81-91 kg). In 2011 he was European and Vice World Champion as well as bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2013 World Cup.

Boxing career

The 1.96 meter tall Məmmədov, who trained in Baku , was the 2010 Azerbaijani light heavyweight champion. At the 39th European Championships in Ankara in June 2011 , he won the heavyweight gold medal. He beat József Darmos from Hungary, Stjepan Vugdelija from Croatia, Abdulchamid Nurmagomedow from Russia, Johann Witt from Germany and Terwel Pulew from Bulgaria.

As the reigning European champion, he then took part in the 16th World Championships in Baku from September to October 2011 . There he defeated Anderson Emanuel from Barbados 23: 7 in the preliminary round , in the second round again the Hungarian József Darmos 24: 9, in the quarter-finals the Cuban José Larduet Gómez 24:20 and in the semifinals Wang Xuanxuan from China prematurely in the second round. Only in the final he was defeated by Ukrainian Oleksandr Ussyk 15:25 on points and thus got out with the silver medal.

This gave him a starting place at the 30th Summer Olympic Games in London in 2012 . He narrowly won the preliminary round against the Australian Jai Opetaia 12:11 and made it to the quarterfinals, where he prevailed against the Belarusian Sjarhej Karnejeu with an auxiliary score of +19: 19 and thus made it to the semi-finals, but where he defeated the Italian Clemente Russo 13 : 15 defeated and thus won the Olympic bronze medal. At the 40th European Championships in Minsk in June 2013 , he reached the final of the heavyweight division. After winning fights against Marko Calic, Croatia, Tommy McCarthy, Ireland, and Denys Pojazyka , Ukraine, he was only eliminated in the final against Alexei Jegorow from Russia.

At the 17th World Championships in Almaty in October 2013 , he defeated Efetobor Apochi from Nigeria, Manpreet Singh from India and Erislandy Savón from Cuba, before losing to the Italian Clemente Russo in the semi- finals and was eliminated with the bronze medal. In 2015 he won the Azerbaijani heavyweight championship and the 2015 European Games in Baku . At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar, he lost to Pawel Siljagin in the round of 16 .

In June 2016, he won the global Olympic qualification tournament in Baku, but three of his five opponents failed to fight. At the 2016 Olympic Games, he defeated Denys Solonenko (3-0) in the preliminary round and Peter Müllenberg ( 3-0) in the round of 16 before losing to Ädilbek Nijasymbetow (0-3) in the quarter-finals .
